This piece is inspired by a conversation with Keola Rapozo about the story of Kahalaopuna, she was betrothed to another chief named Ka'uhi. In the story, Ka'uhi kills Kahalo'opuna, but an auma kua, a Pueo, revives her. Ka'uhi is eventually defeated and turned into a shark.

The pattern in the piece reflects the zigzag path of the mountains to the ocean, with the negative space representing the meandering flow of water from the mother, Ka ua Kuahine, down to Waikiki.
