Shara Tuiasoa is the illustrator and owner of Punky Aloha Studios. She creates art that celebrates Pasifika cultures and her life living in Hawaii. Tuiasoa's work is meant to provide a whimsical journey into the life and mind of a Pacific Islander, exploring what it's like to be a local and native in these communities. She believes the arts are extremely important, even though they are often the first to be cut from budgets. The arts are a crucial form of communication and a way for Pacific Islanders to keep their traditions alive. Tuiasoa hopes that by having a community-based art space where the public can experience the power of art, it will help to further propel support for the arts within these communities.
